Crittall-style kitchen screens
A Crittall-style kitchen screen is a glazed partition, usually with a door, that separates a kitchen from a living or dining room while keeping the two visually connected. It is the most common way to get broken-plan living in an existing house.

Why people choose kitchen screens
Fully open-plan kitchens are bright but loud, and the extractor rarely wins. A screen with a door gives you the choice: open when you are cooking for friends, closed when the dishwasher runs during a film. Because the glass carries light from the extension, the room at the front of the house stops being the dark one.
Where it works
- Between a rear kitchen extension and the original middle room
- Closing off a galley kitchen from a through-lounge
- Separating a utility or boot room from the main kitchen
- Enclosing a pantry or wine store with a glazed front
How much does it cost?
As a guide, kitchen screens cost £3,800 to £8,400 for a typical size, fitted and including VAT. Steel-look aluminium sits at the lower end and solid steel at the upper end. Size, bar pattern, glass and doors make the difference. Use the design and price tool for your own size, or read the full cost guide.

Questions about kitchen screens
Does a kitchen screen need special glass?
Every pane is toughened or laminated safety glass, which Building Regulations require near doors and at low level. Acoustic laminated glass is worth considering if the screen faces a living room.
Will the screen steam up?
Internal screens rarely mist up, because both sides are heated rooms. A good extractor fan matters more than the glass.
Can you match the screen colour to my kitchen units?
Yes. Frames can be powder-coated to any RAL colour, and we can take a sample door to match.
