How much does a Crittall-style screen cost in 2026?

What does a typical screen cost?
A 2.4m wide by 2.1m high internal screen with no door usually costs from about £2,800 in steel-look aluminium to about £6,250 in solid steel, fitted and including VAT. Adding a single door adds roughly £400 to £800; a pair of French doors roughly £700 to £1,350.
These are guide figures from our pricing model. Your fixed price comes after a survey, once we know the exact size, the condition of the opening and the glass you want.
Why is steel more expensive than aluminium?
Solid steel sections cost more to buy, are heavier to handle and take longer to cut, weld and finish. In return they give the slimmest possible frame and the most authentic look. Steel-look aluminium costs around 40 percent less per square metre and is lighter to install.
What else changes the price?
Arched heads and curved bars add around 15 to 20 percent. Reeded or acoustic glass adds roughly £120 to £140 per square metre. Fire-rated glass and a tested steel system can roughly double the cost. Non-black colours add a small premium. Access, such as upper-floor flats with small lifts, can also affect the price.
Is there a minimum charge?
Yes. Because every job needs a survey, drawings, a made-to-measure frame and a fitting team, small screens have a minimum price of around £1,200 in aluminium and £1,800 in steel.
How can I keep the cost down?
Choose steel-look aluminium, keep to a straight-headed grid, use standard black, and have the opening prepared and plastered before we measure. A fixed screen with no door is always the cheapest option per square metre.
