How much does a Crittall-style internal screen cost?

As a guide, a 2.4m wide by 2.1m high internal screen costs from about £2,800 in steel-look aluminium to about £6,250 in solid steel, fitted and including VAT. Your fixed price follows a free survey.

Are your screens made by Crittall Windows Ltd?

No. Crittall is a registered trade mark of Crittall Windows Ltd. We are an independent business making and fitting screens in the Crittall style, and we are not connected with Crittall Windows Ltd.

Do you supply steel or aluminium?

Both. Solid steel gives the slimmest frames; steel-look aluminium gives almost the same look for around 40 percent less. We quote both so you can compare.

How long does it take?

Usually 4 to 6 weeks to make once you sign off the drawings, and one day to fit a typical screen.

Do you cover my area?

We survey and install across England, Wales and Scotland, arranged from our office in Birmingham.

Is the glass safe?

Every pane is toughened or laminated safety glass to BS EN 12600, which meets the safety glazing rules for doors and low-level panes.

Can you match a colour?

Yes. Frames can be powder-coated in any RAL colour, including bronze, deep green and white, as well as classic matt black.

Who do I contract with?

Your contract is with S&K Glazing Limited, part of the S&K Group, which carries out the survey, manufacture and installation.

Do I need a steel beam to put in an internal screen?

Only if the screen replaces a load-bearing wall. The screen itself carries no load, so a structural engineer sizes any beam first and the screen is fitted underneath it. Where the wall is non-structural, no beam is needed.

Is a room divider the same as a screen?

They are made the same way. A divider usually stops short of a wall or ceiling so you can walk around it, whereas a screen fills an opening edge to edge.

Does a kitchen screen need special glass?

Every pane is toughened or laminated safety glass, which Building Regulations require near doors and at low level. Acoustic laminated glass is worth considering if the screen faces a living room.

Can a Crittall-style door go into my existing door frame?

Often, yes. If the opening is square and the lining is sound, we fit a doorset into it. Where the opening is out of square we fit a new frame and make good.

Do sliding doors seal well?

They seal less tightly than a hinged door, so they suit rooms where sound and smells matter less. If privacy matters, we fit brush seals and acoustic glass.

Does a pivot door need a special floor?

The bottom pivot is set into the floor, so we need to know the finished floor build-up. On timber floors we add a fixing plate; on screed we core into it.
