Crittall-style arched screens

A Crittall-style arched screen is a glazed steel or steel-look aluminium screen with a curved head, curved glazing bars or a fanlight, made to fill an arched opening. It turns an existing arch into a feature instead of a hole in the wall.

Why people choose arched and curved screens

Many Victorian and Edwardian houses already have an arch between rooms, and 1930s houses often have curved hallway openings. Glazing the arch keeps its shape. New openings can also be formed as arches, which suits period houses and softens a run of straight lines in a modern extension.

Where it works

  • Existing arches between front and back rooms
  • Fanlights above internal doors
  • Curved openings into hallways
  • Feature arches in new extensions and kitchens

Questions about arched and curved screens

My arch is not a perfect curve. Can you still glaze it?

Yes. Most old arches are slightly uneven, so we template the actual shape on site rather than relying on a measured radius.

Do arched screens cost more?

Bending the head adds work, so expect the price per square metre to be around a fifth higher than a straight screen.

Can I have an arched door?

Yes, as a single or a pair, with the arch carried in the head of the frame above the doors.
