Crittall-style internal doors
Crittall-style internal doors are hinged glazed doors with slim steel or steel-look aluminium frames and glazing bars, fitted singly or as a French pair. They replace a solid door so light reaches the room beyond.
Why people choose internal doors
Swapping a solid door for a glazed one is the quickest way to brighten a hallway. A pair of French doors between two reception rooms gives the feel of one large room without losing the second fireplace wall. Doors can be supplied with their own frame and side panels, or as a matching doorset in an existing opening.
Where it works
- Between front and back reception rooms in a period house
- Off a dark hallway into a living room
- Into a dining room from a kitchen
- As a matching set along a corridor of rooms
How much does it cost?
As a guide, internal doors cost £2,450 to £5,250 for a typical size, fitted and including VAT. Steel-look aluminium sits at the lower end and solid steel at the upper end. Size, bar pattern, glass and doors make the difference. Use the design and price tool for your own size, or read the full cost guide.

Questions about internal doors
Can a Crittall-style door go into my existing door frame?
Often, yes. If the opening is square and the lining is sound, we fit a doorset into it. Where the opening is out of square we fit a new frame and make good.
Are glazed internal doors safe with children?
The glass is toughened or laminated safety glass to BS EN 12600, so it is far stronger than ordinary glass and breaks safely if it ever does.
Do I need fire doors?
In most two-storey houses you do not. In a three-storey house, or a flat, doors onto the stairs or hallway often need to be fire-rated, which we can supply with the right glass.
