Do I need permission for Crittall-style windows or screens?
Internal Crittall-style screens rarely need planning permission, but listed buildings need listed building consent for internal changes, and replacing windows in a conservation area can need planning permission if an Article 4 direction applies.

Internal screens
Inside an unlisted house, internal screens do not need planning permission. Building Regulations still apply to structural work, safety glass and fire safety.
Replacement windows and doors
Like-for-like replacements are usually permitted development for houses. In conservation areas with an Article 4 direction, or in flats, planning permission may be needed.
Listed buildings
Any work affecting the character of a listed building, inside or out, needs listed building consent. Carrying out work without it can be a criminal offence.
How we help
We supply measured drawings of the existing and proposed glazing, sections through frames and product details to support applications.
